PhD/PostDoc Positions

in Estimation and Control

Description: The Chair for Intelligent Sensor-Actuator-Systems (ISAS) works on modern estimation and control methods with applications to
  • Optimization of industrial processes, e.g., optical sorting machines,
  • Traffic management for air traffic control and pedestrian simulation,
  • Development of assitive functions in telepresence systems and in medical engineering, and
  • Sensor data processing in networks, e.g., for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

We are seeking to fill seven PhD/PostDoc positions with excellent candidates, who will work closely together in the following areas:

I: Four full-time, fully paid positions (as soon as possible)

  • Distributed cooperative nonlinear estimation methods
  • Multisensor data fusion for position estimation of planes and vehicles at airports
  • Networked AR-based training and support of production workers
  • Multi-target tracking and association methods

II: Three full-time, fully paid positions (from July 1, 2017)

  • Recursive Estimation of Rigid Body Motions
  • Energy-efficient model-based sensor data fusion in networks
  • Stochastic optimal control based on Gaussian process regression

All positions offer the possibility to cooperate with our network of partners from industry and academia on a national and international basis.

We offer a quick path to the PhD degree (≤ 3 years). Besides research, the supervision of bachelor/master theses and participation in teaching is expected.

Personal Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (or equivalent) / PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, ...
  • Very good mathematical knowledge
  • Know-how in stochastics and signal processing (are advantageous, but not a prerequisite)
  • High self-motivation, teamworking skills, and readiness for interdisciplinary work
  • Proficiency in the English language (spoken and written)
  • Commitment to publish research results
  • Willingness for international travel (conferences, research stays, ...)
Payment: The positions are full-time, fully paid researcher positions according to "Vergütungsgruppe des Tarifvertrages des öffentlichen Dienstes" TV-L E13. This may increase depending on experience.
